Neubauten.org news: YouTube blocks; live tour dates

This week we posted several videos from Neubauten.org’s new Vimeo channel to alert you to its existence.  Here’s a note from today’s Neubauten.org newsletter:

Einstürzende Neubauten – Geneva / Hamburg / Chicago 1984

A triple-shot Neubauten Monday from 1984. (How very American of me.)

Sept 1, 1984 is the day Neubauten played 2 shows in 2 countries: Geneva in the morning, and later that night, after a very long drive, they play Hamburg’s Markthalle. That might explain why Blixa looks a bit mad. I’ve uploaded an audio sample from the Geneva show. I don’t have anything from the Hamburg show, except this sublime image. This post ends with a video clip from the band’s first American tour in March 1984 (under the cut).

If nuclear war had a theme song, Blixa Bargeld would compose it. Along with his band Einstürzende Neubauten (“Collapsed New Buildings”), 27-year-old Blixa mixes angst and ernst with clanging airplane wings and gurgling pots of boiling mud to create harrowing chants of alienation.
